The grid for St. Anthony Park was laid out as a neighborhood between downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul in the 1870's by landscape architect Horace Cleveland. His vision was to create a neighborhood with large estates that matched the contours of the land. This plan gives St. Anthony Park its oddly shaped green spaces and winding streets.

There are several options for schools in this neighborhood. Chelsea Heights and St. Anthony Park are neighborhood elementary schools. Murray Junior High is located in the neighborhood, and many of the students continue on to high school at Como Senior High in nearby Como Park.
